This morning Access2 Human Resources closed their series of free seminars in 2018 with a informative update on the latest changes in employment law. The seminar was free for any local employer to attend and was held at the new home for Access2 Human Resources in Salisbury – Cross Keys House in Queen Street.
Guests arrived to a selection of fresh pastries from and had an opportunity to meet the Access2 Human Resources team ahead of the presentations. Thanks to our local Reeve The Baker for the treats and our Regus hosts for our meeting room – we’re very lucky to have such modern facilities to hand.
Employment Law update from Access2 Human Resources
Brexit and the EU Settlement Scheme
Naturally one of the key updates was regarding the latest updates on Brexit and what this meant for employers with staff from the EU. There is still so much uncertainty that is preventing businesses moving forward with their ability to plan for Brexit. HR Consultant Mark Dunning discussed the overview of the current position on Brexit, the transition period from 29 March 2019 and details of the EU Settlement Scheme.

Minimising the Risk of an Employment Tribunal
Managing Director of Access2 Human Resources, Dan Jenkins, then shared some interesting statistics on employment tribunals since the fees were abolished in July 2017.
The latest figures have shown that claims in April-June 2018 were up 165% compared to the same period last year, and the highest sum awarded to an employer was £415,227.
Dan concluded with a number of tips for employers to minimise the risk of an employment tribunal, which included:
-
Review and update employment contract terms and policies
